CONVERSATION IN JANNAH

سَلَامٌ قَوْلًا مِّن رَّبٍّ رَّحِيمٍ ‎

We are used to communication in this world. With few exceptions, we learn to talk at the age of 12 to 18 months. Allah has given us the freedom to speak whatever we want – whether just or unfair. Only on the Day of Judgment we will get our full recompense for all we did in this world. Every deed, good or bad, will be visible and put on the scale.

What about the other world? What will be the conversations like in the other world? What will our conversations be like? Will it be like we used to talk in this world? We have some glimpses about conversations in the other world from the Qur’an and sunnah.

ALLAH WILL SAY SALAM TO THE PEOPLE OF JANNAH

Just imagine Allah (SWT), the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth, saying salam to the people Jannah!

Indeed the companions of Paradise, that Day, will be amused in [joyful] occupation –

They and their spouses – in shade, reclining on adorned couches.

For them therein is fruit, and for them is whatever they request [or wish] [And] “Peace,” a word from a Merciful Lord. Sura Yasin 36:55-58

ALLAH WILL SPEAK TO THE PERSON WHO WILL ENTER JANNAH LAST OF ALL

It is reported on the authority of al-Mughira b. Shu’ba that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

Moses asked his Lord: Who amongst the inhabitants of Paradise is the lowest to rank? He (Allah) said: The person who would be admitted into Paradise last of all among those deserving of Paradise who are admitted to it. I would be said to him: Enter Paradise. He would say: O my Lord! how (should I enter) while the people have settled in their apartments and taken the shares (portions)? It would be said to him: Would you be pleased if there be for you like the kingdom of a king amongst the kings of the world? He would say: I am pleased my Lord. He (Allah) would say: For you is that, and like that, and like that, and like that, and that. He would say at the fifth (point): I am well pleased. My Lord. He (Allah) would say: It is for you and, ten times like it, and for you is what your self desires and your eye enjoys. He would say: I am well pleased, my Lord. He (Moses) said: (Which is) the highest of their (inhabitants of Paradise) ranks? He (Allah) said: They are those whom I choose. I establish their honor with My own hand and then set a seal over it (and they would be blessed with Bounties) which no eye has seen, no ear has heard and no human mind has perceived: and this is sub stantiated by the Book of Allah, Exalted and Great:” So no soul knows what delight of the eye is hidden for them; a reward for what they did” (xxxii. 17).

ALLAH WILL SPEAK TO THE PERSON WHO WILL BE BROUGHT OUT FROM THE FIRE

(3) Narrated Abu Huraira:

Some people said, “O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)! Shall we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection?” He said, “Do you crowd and squeeze each other on looking at the sun when it is not hidden by clouds?” They replied, “No, Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ).” He said, “Do you crowd and squeeze each other on looking at the moon when it is full and not hidden by clouds?” They replied, No, O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)!” He said, “So you will see Him (your Lord) on the Day of Resurrection similarly Allah will gather all the people and say, ‘Whoever used to worship anything should follow that thing. ‘So, he who used to worship the sun, will follow it, and he who used to worship the moon will follow it, and he who used to worship false deities will follow them; and then only this nation (i.e., Muslims) will remain, including their hypocrites. Allah will come to them in a shape other than they know and will say, ‘I am your Lord.’ They will say, ‘We seek refuge with Allah from you. This is our place; (we will not follow you) till our Lord comes to us, and when our Lord comes to us, we will recognize Him. Then Allah will come to then in a shape they know and will say, “I am your Lord.’ They will say, ‘(No doubt) You are our Lord,’ and they will follow Him. Then a bridge will be laid over the (Hell) Fire.” Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) added, “I will be the first to cross it. And the invocation of the Apostles on that Day, will be ‘Allahumma Sallim, Sallim (O Allah, save us, save us!),’ and over that bridge there will be hooks Similar to the thorns of As Sa’dan (a thorny tree). Didn’t you see the thorns of As-Sa’dan?” The companions said, “Yes, O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ).” He added, “So the hooks over that bridge will be like the thorns of As-Sa-dan except that their greatness in size is only known to Allah. These hooks will snatch the people according to their deeds. Some people will be ruined because of their evil deeds, and some will be cut into pieces and fall down in Hell, but will be saved afterwards, when Allah has finished the judgments among His slaves, and intends to take out of the Fire whoever He wishes to take out from among those who used to testify that none had the right to be worshipped but Allah. We will order the angels to take them out and the angels will know them by the mark of the traces of prostration (on their foreheads) for Allah banned the f ire to consume the traces of prostration on the body of Adam’s son. So they will take them out, and by then they would have burnt (as coal), and then water, called Ma’ul Hayat (water of life) will be poured on them, and they will spring out like a seed springs out on the bank of a rainwater stream, and there will remain one man who will be facing the (Hell) Fire and will say, ‘O Lord! It’s (Hell’s) vapor has Poisoned and smoked me and its flame has burnt me; please turn my face away from the Fire.’ He will keep on invoking Allah till Allah says, ‘Perhaps, if I give you what you want), you will ask for another thing?’ The man will say, ‘No, by Your Power, I will not ask You for anything else.’ Then Allah will turn his face away from the Fire. The man will say after that, ‘O Lord, bring me near the gate of Paradise.’ Allah will say (to him), ‘Didn’t you promise not to ask for anything else? Woe to you, O son of Adam ! How treacherous you are!’ The man will keep on invoking Allah till Allah will say, ‘But if I give you that, you may ask me for something else.’ The man will say, ‘No, by Your Power. I will not ask for anything else.’ He will give Allah his covenant and promise not to ask for anything else after that. So Allah will bring him near to the gate of Paradise, and when he sees what is in it, he will remain silent as long as Allah will, and then he will say, ‘O Lord! Let me enter Paradise.’ Allah will say, ‘Didn’t you promise that you would not ask Me for anything other than that? Woe to you, O son of Adam ! How treacherous you are!’ On that, the man will say, ‘O Lord! Do not make me the most wretched of Your creation,’ and will keep on invoking Allah till Allah will smile and when Allah will smile because of him, then He will allow him to enter Paradise, and when he will enter Paradise, he will be addressed, ‘Wish from so-and-so.’ He will wish till all his wishes will be fulfilled, then Allah will say, All this (i.e. what you have wished for) and as much again therewith are for you.’ ” Abu Huraira added: That man will be the last of the people of Paradise to enter (Paradise).

Gardens of perpetual residence; they will enter them with whoever were righteous among their forefathers, their spouses and their descendants. And the angels will enter upon them from every gate, [saying],

CONVERSATION OF THE PEOPLE OF JANNAH

The people of Jannah, the few whom Allah has blessed, will have their conversation in Jannah, thanking Allah for having guided them to the eternal place of happiness.

We will remove whatever bitterness they had in their hearts. Rivers will flow under their feet. And they will say, “Praise be to Allah for guiding us to this. We would have never been guided if Allah had not guided us. The messengers of our Lord had certainly come with the truth.” It will be announced to them, “This is Paradise awarded to you for what you used to do.” Sura Al-A’raf 7:43

It is He who confers blessing upon you, and His angels [ask Him to do so] that He may bring you out from darknesses into the light. And ever is He, to the believers, Merciful.

Their greeting the Day they meet Him will be, “Peace.” And He has prepared for them a noble reward.

INHABITANTS OF JANNAH WILL SEE PEOPLE OF JAHANNAM AND TALK TO THEM

And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other.

A speaker among them will say, “Indeed, I had a companion [on earth].

Who would say, ‘Are you indeed of those who believe

That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'”

He will say,1 “Would you [care to] look?”

And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire.

He will say, “By Allāh, you almost ruined me.

If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell].

Then, are we not to die

Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?”

Indeed, this is the great attainment.

Sura As-Saffat 50-60

INHABITANTS OF JANNAH WILL BE EXALTED WITH THEIR PLACEMENT IN JANNAH
