DEEDS WILL BE MEASURED

EVERY action of ours is being recorded. And with that is recorded our intention. If the intention is NOT for the sake of Allah (SWT) then that act of good deed is rejected.

Every righteous deed that a person does may be part of that with which Allah will cause the balance of his or her good deeds to weigh heavily on the Day of Resurrection. What will be measured? How much of it will be seen?

And the weighing [of deeds] that Day will be the truth. So those whose scales are heavy – it is they who will be the successful. And those whose scales are light – they are the ones who will lose themselves for what injustice they were doing toward Our verses. Sura Al-A’raf 8-9

In death, the scenario will change. What is invisible will be visible. The body in next life will be different. It will have the ability to see angels. There will be no death. Hands will speak. Foot will bear witness.

Quote from Abu Bakr: “Do you not see that those whose scales are heavy in the Hereafter are heavy only because they followed the truth in the world, for doing so was heavy upon them (i.e, it required striving and effort, like an upward climb). And it is befitting for a scale to be heavy when only truth is placed on it. Do you not see that those whose scales (i.e scales of good deeds) are light in the Hereafter are light only because they followed falsehood in the world; and doing so was light for them (i.e, easy, without strain, like descending a downward slope).

WEIGHT OF MUSTARD SEED WILL BE BROUGHT FORTH

And We place the scales of justice for the Day of Resurrection, so no soul will be treated unjustly at all. And if there is [even] the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it forth. And sufficient are We as accountant. Sura Al-Anbya 21:47

ATOM’S WEIGHT WILL BE BROUGHT FORTH

So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it, And whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it. Sura Az-Zalzalah 7-8

Indeed, Allāh does not do injustice, [even] as much as an atom’s weight; while if there is a good deed, He multiplies it and gives from Himself a great reward. Sura An-Nisa 40

WHATEVER WE DID HAS BEEN TRANSCRIBED

This, Our record, speaks about you in truth. Indeed, We were having transcribed1 whatever you used to do. Sura Al-Jathiyah 45:29

EVERY WORD THAT WE SPOKE HAS BEEN RECORDED

He [i.e., man] utters no word except that with him is an observer prepared [to record]. Sura Qaf 18

MAN WILL BE SURPRISED – EVERY DEED SMALL OR BIG HAS IS IN THE BOOK!

And the record [of deeds] will be placed [open], and you will see the criminals fearful of that within it, and they will say, “Oh, woe to us! What is this book that leaves nothing small or great except that it has enumerated it?” And they will find what they did present [before them]. And your Lord does injustice to no one. Sura Al-Kahf  49

GOOD DEEDS

There are texts which speak of specific deeds which will weigh particularly heavy in the doer’s balance on the Day of Resurrection

MOST HEAVILY IN BALANCE

This is the deed that will weigh most heavily in the balance

It was narrated that ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘Aas said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah will bring forth a man belonging to my ummah before all creatures and will spread ninety-nine scrolls [containing the record of his bad deeds] for him, each scroll extending as far as the eye can see. Then He will say,

‘Do you object to anything in this? Have my scribes who keep note wronged you?’

He will say, ‘No, my Lord.’

He will ask him, ‘Do you have any excuse?’

He will say, ‘No my Lord.’

Allah will say, ‘On the contrary, you have with Us a good deed, and you will not be wronged this Day.’

A slip of paper will then be brought out, on which are the words ‘Ashhadu an laa ilaaha ill-Allah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasooluhu

Allah will say, ‘Bring your balance.’

The man will say, ‘O Lord, what is this slip of paper in comparison to these scrolls?’

And He will reply, ‘You will not be wronged.’

The scrolls will then be put in one side of the Balance and the slip of paper in the other, and the scrolls will become light and the slip of paper heavy, for nothing could compare in weight to the name of Allah.”

Narrated by Ahmad (6699) and at-Tirmidhi (2639); classed as saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaani (may Allah have mercy on him).

TWO WORDS THAT ARE HEAVY ON THE SCALE

“Two words which are light on the tongue but will weigh heavily in the Balance and are beloved to the Most Merciful: Subhaan Allah il-‘Azeem, Subhaan Allahi wa bi Hamdihi (Glory be to Allah the Almighty, Glory and praise be to Allah.” Al-Bukhaari (6406) and Muslim (2694).

AZKAR AFTER SALAH

‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said,

“If a Muslim man persists in two actions, he will enter the Garden.

They are easy, but those who do them are few.’

He was asked, ‘What are they, may Allah bless him and grant him peace?’

He said,

  • ‘That you say “Allahu akbar” ten times,
  • “al-hamdu lillah” ten times, and
  • “Subhana’llah” ten times after every prayer.
  • That is 150 on the tongue and 1500 in the balance.’
  • I saw the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, counting them with his hand.

Al-Adab Al-Mufrad  Sahih (Al-Albani)

  • Then he said, ‘When you go to bed, you should say,
  • “Subhana’llah”, “al-hamdu lillah”, and “Allahu akbar”.
  • That is 100 on the tongue and 1000 in the balance.
  • Who among you can do 2500 bad actions morning and night?’ He was asked, ‘Messenger of Allah, how is it that they are not counted?’ He said, ‘Shaytan comes to one of you while he is praying and reminds him of something he has to do such-and-such and such-and-such, so he does not remember to do it.’”

Al-Adab Al-Mufrad  Sahih (Al-Albani)

GOOD CHARACTER WEIGHS HEAVILY ON JUDGMENT DAY

Abu Ad-Dardh narrated that the Messenger of Allah said:

“Nothing is placed on the Scale that is heavier than good character. Indeed the person with good character will have attained the rank of the person of fasting and prayer.” Jami` at-Tirmidhi

It was narrated that Al-Musayyab bin Rafi’ said:

“I heard Al-Bara’ bin ‘Azib say: The Messenger of Allah said: ‘whoever follows a Janazah until the prayer is offered, he will have one Qirat of reward and whoever walks with the funeral until (the body) is buried will have two Qirats of reward, and a Qirat is like Uhud.”’
