The Day of Judgment is a horrendous Day for the disbelievers, and a Day of happiness for those believers who realized that this Day would be coming and they could have to stand in front of their Creator one Day, and Allah had mercy on them.
According to Qur’an and Sunnah, length of the Day is fifty thousand years! Subhanallah! We spend 60/70 years in this life yet think that life is soooo long, yet when the Day arrives it will be no easy matter for the disbelievers, and very easy on those who have believed and done righteous deeds.
How will faces change that Day? And why was the face chosen by Allah SWT to describe the situation? All our emotions concentrate on the faces – if we are happy – it shows in the face, not in any other part of the body. If we are sad it shows in the face. If we are sick it shows on the face.
Here are some description from Qur’an and Sunnah. We ask Allah (SWT) to protect us and all Muslims from humiliation on the Day of Judgment, for that Day the humiliation will be not in front of 100/200 people but in front of entire mankind beginning from Adam (AS) to the last person born in this planet earth.
1. RAISED BLIND
And whoever turns away from My remembrance – indeed, he will have a depressed [i.e., difficult] life, and We will gather [i.e., raise] him on the Day of Resurrection blind.”
Sura Taha 20:124
2. SOME FACES WILL BE BRIGHT, OTHERS BLACK
[Some] faces, that Day, will be bright –Laughing, rejoicing at good news.
And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust.
Blackness will cover them.
Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones.
Sura Abasa 80:38-42
3. GLANCE NOT RETURNING DUE TO THE TERROR OF THAT DAY
Racing ahead, their heads raised up, their glance does not come back to them, and their hearts are void.
Sura Ibrahim 14:43
4. CRIMINALS WILL BE KNOWN BY THEIR FACES
The criminals will be known by their marks, and they will be seized by the forelocks and the feet.
Sura Ar Rahman – 55:41
5. SOME FACES WILL BE RADIANT, OTHERS WILL BE TERRORIZED
[Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant,Looking at their Lord.
And [some] faces, that Day, will be contorted,
Expecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking.
Sura Qiyamah 22-25
6.SOME FACES WILL BE TURNED ABOUT IN THE FIRE
The Day their faces will be turned about in the Fire, they will say, “How we wish we had obeyed Allāh and obeyed the Messenger.”
Sura Ahzab 33:66
7. SOME FACES WILL BE BLACK
And on the Day of Resurrection you will see those who lied about Allāh [with] their faces blackened. Is there not in Hell a residence for the arrogant?
Sura Zumar 39:60
8. THE DISBELIEVER WILL BE DRIVEN UPON HIS FACE
Anas bin Malik narrated that a man said: “O Messenger of Allah, how will the disbeliever be driven upon his face on the Day of Resurrection?” He said: “Is not the One Who caused him to walk on his legs in this world able to cause him to walk on his face on the Day of Resurrection?
Qatadah said: “Yes, by the Might of our Lord.”

9. SOME FACES WILL TURN WHITE, OTHERS WILL TURN BLACK
On the Day [some] faces will turn white and [some] faces will turn black. As for those whose faces turn black, [to them it will be said], “Did you disbelieve [i.e., reject faith] after your belief? Then taste the punishment for what you used to reject.”
Sura Al I Imran 106
10. SOME FACES WILL BE COVERED BY THE FIRE
Their garments of liquid pitch and their faces covered by the Fire
Sura Ibrahim 43, 50
11. HOT WATER WILL BE POURED WHICH WILL SCALD THE FACES
And say, “The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills – let him believe; and whoever wills – let him disbelieve.” Indeed, We have prepared for the wrongdoers a fire whose walls will surround them. And if they call for relief, they will be relieved with water like murky oil, which scalds [their] faces. Wretched is the drink, and evil is the resting place.
Sura Kahf 29
We ask Allah (SWT) to have mercy upon us on that Day.
Allahumma qi-ni ‘a-dha-bak, yaw-ma tab’a-su i-ba-dak
Meaning: O Allah Save me from your punishment, the day You resurrect Your slaves
Sunan Ibn Majah 3877
