The Scale of Deeds
If Allah is pleased with our deeds….”Then as for one whose scales are heavy [with good deeds],He will be in a pleasant life.” Surah Al-Qariah. “And no soul knows what has been hidden for them of comfort for eyes as reward for what they used to do.” Surah As-Sajdah.
If all our efforts have been towards attaining this world…”But as for one whose scales are light,His refuge will be an abyss. And what can make you know what that is?It is a Fire, intensely hot.” Surah Al-Qariah.
Why were we created? Allah has created us so he can test us: “[He] who created death and life to test you [as to] which of you is best in deed – and He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving -” Surah Mulk
All of a man’s deeds stops after his departure from this world except for three things – The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) says ” When a person dies, all his deeds come to an end except three: sadaqah jaariyah, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who will pray for him.”
The life of this world seems so long – yet it is indeed very short. How short? Allah says in Surah Naziat “It will be, on the Day they see it, as though they had not remained [in the world] except for an afternoon or a morning thereof.” And in Surah Muminoon “They will say, “We remained a day or part of a day; ask those who enumerate.””
What does Allah say about the life on this earth? Amusement and diversion!! “Know that the life of this world is but amusement and diversion and adornment and boasting to one another and competition in increase of wealth and children – like the example of a rain whose [resulting] plant growth pleases the tillers; then it dries and you see it turned yellow; then it becomes [scattered] debris. And in the Hereafter is severe punishment and forgiveness from Allah and approval. And what is the worldly life except the enjoyment of delusion.” Surah Hadid
How to help the dead – do our prayers actually reach them? Allah’s Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: A man’s status will be raised in Paradise & he will ask, ‘How did I get here?’ He will be told, ‘By your Child duaa’s (Supplication) for forgiveness for you.’
One Day everyone will be raised up from their graves… in Surah Ya-sin Allah says: “And the Horn will be blown; and at once from the graves to their Lord they will hasten”. Here the word for graves used is “Ajdath” – meaning graves that have been forgotten!
And finally – – no one knows when his / her time will be up, so let us be prepared for the meeting with our Creator – who has created us from nothing. We should be prepared to leave at all times – instead of waiting for a certain age, which we may or may not reach: “O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].” Surah Al I Imran
When the time is up, no amount of pleading will bring us back to this world. Allah says in Sura Al-Munafiqun “O you who have believed, let not your wealth and your children divert you from remembrance of Allah . And whoever does that – then those are the losers.
And spend [in the way of Allah ] from what We have provided you before death approaches one of you and he says, “My Lord, if only You would delay me for a brief term so I would give charity and be among the righteous.”
“But never will Allah delay a soul when its time has come. And Allah is Acquainted with what you do.”
“My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [many] from my descendants. Our Lord, and accept my supplication.
Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established.”
Allah knows best.
